Manship Theatre
Jamie Wax’s Goin’ to Jackson returns to Manship Theatre May 30 – June 8
In what has become a summer tradition, the long-running smash hit comedy
Goin’ to Jackson returns to the Manship Theatre May 30 through June 8.
Since its premiere in Baton Rouge in March of 1991, Jamie Wax’s one-man
play with music has been performed throughout the country, garnering
universal acclaim and critical praise. Fresh from the road and filled
with new jokes and observations, this year’s production promises to be
the most hilarious Jackson yet.
Wax portrays five characters involved in a contest being held at the
East Louisiana State Hospital to find a mental health spokesperson. As
each character shares his or her story, side-splitting humor, powerful
truths, and surprising moments of drama are revealed.
Rod Dreher of the Dallas Morning News calls the show “Uproarious!
Laugh-packed! A highly entertaining call for compassion and tolerance.”
Ray Blum of the Daily Advertiser says it’s “Theatrical genius!” And
David Cuthbert of the Times Picayune dubs it “A tour-de farce! Very
funny, very touching…I couldn’t stop laughing!”
Performances are at 8:00 p.m. May 30 – 31 and June 3 – 7, with 2:00 p.m.
Sunday matinees on June 1 and 8. Tickets are $25-40. For information or
tickets, call the Manship Theatre Ticket Desk at (225) 344-0334 or 1

Of Moving Colors reaches new heights with Altitude
Ever dreamed of flying? The Of Moving Colors dancers invite you to come
live the dream with them at Altitude, the final production of the
company's Twentieth Anniversary Season.
Closing out OMC's yearlong celebration of its 20th year will be
Altitude, a unique production that will take audiences to new heights…
literally! Contemporary movement joins with aerial dance in this latest
presentation from the community's premier dance-theater company. The
work will send dancers aloft on swings suspended from above and will
also include acrobatic choreography performed on a 12-foot tower,
designed by Baton Rouge architect Yvonne Boudreaux. Dancers will
manipulate an 800-square-foot piece of Chinese silk to reach the
absolute heights of the stage in choreography by Bethany Jones
McCullough.
Don't miss the chance to see works never before performed in a Baton
Rouge theater - from floor to ceiling and all distances in between,
Altitude will surely offer a refreshing new perspective.
Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 and 2 p.m. Sunday,
June 15. Tickets range from $10 to $35 and may be purchased by visiting
the Manship Theatre Box Office at www.manshiptheatre.org. For more
information, contact the OMC office at contact@ofmovingcolors.org or

St. Francisville Transitory
Theatre
Announces its 2008 Summer Season
Since 2003, The St. Francisville Transitory Theatre has entertained
and intrigued audiences with theatrical productions of all kinds.
Their first production, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
(abridged)” was so well received, four encore performances were
given. In 2007, the company’s two shows, “You Can’t Take It With
You” and “A Merry Medieval Christmas,” both had extended runs. This
is a company worth watching.
This summer the Transitory Theatre plans to step it up a notch.
Working with the Arts for All Council of St. Francisville and other
area organizations, the company will create and stage an original
play based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Carroll’s stories, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the
Looking Glass, have been made into many plays, movies, and songs and
have significantly affected today’s society and pop culture. The
apparently reckless use of nonsense and magic intrigues children of
all ages yet still maintains a sophistication and curiosity that can
hold the attention of even the most grown-up adult.
Artistic director Andrew Farrier, along with a team of company
members, plans to take these books and many of the works that have
come from them and build an original script and score for the St.
Francisville Transitory Theatre’s version of the show. Lifelong
resident Robbie Gilmore is the music director. The team of creators
is made up of students and residents of St. Francisville as well as
some out-of-town talent. The composition process will take place in
the month of June. At the same time, the Arts for All Council
(through a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council, the
Louisiana Division of the Arts, and the Arts Council of Greater
Baton Rouge through the Decentralized Arts Funding Program) will
host free public workshops in theatre and set design.Alan Morton and
Heather Fierabend of McKinley Middle Magnet School in Baton Rouge
will teach the workshops.
On June 27-28, after the composition process and workshops are
completed, open auditions will be held for anyone and everyone
interested in participating in the show in any capacity.
Schedule Summary
- Open Free Workshop registration deadline - May 10
- Workshops run May 25 - Jun 26 (times set based on registration)
- Open Auditions for “Alice in Wonderland” - June 27-28, 6:00pm
Rehearsals June 29 - July 29
- “Alice in Wonderland” performances tentatively July 30 - Aug. 2
and Aug. 6 - 9.
If you are interested in participating in the workshops, composition
process, or production or if you have any questions, call (225)
721-2124 or check out the website at
