Baton Rouge Launches Social Media Club

 

Baton Rouge is on the cutting edge of social media and today the city took the first steps in proving it! Baton Rouge Social Media Club (BRSMC) held its first membership meeting, Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Louisiana State Museum. Over 70 members of the Baton Rouge Social Media community turned out to learn more about the club and upcoming events. Members dined on lunch provided by JimmyJohns Gourmet Sandwiches.
Personal bloggers, social media enthusiast and even corporation attended the meeting. “We had a great turn out. Community Coffee gave out bags of their famous coffee, I recognized representatives from LSU, LSU Athletics, Louisiana Lottery, Eatel and more,” Whitney Breaux (@wbreaux), founder & Executive Director of Baton Rouge Social Media Club, said.
BRSMC came from a meeting of Baton Rouge bloggers looking to increase the city’s presence in the world of social media. Shannon Lane (@Cajun_Mama) was the member/ speaker for the meeting. Lane, who has enjoyed personal social media fame with her blog www.travelingmamas.com, empowered the audience to build their presence in social media. “Imagine all the places you want to go, now go do it!” Lane said.
BRSMC is set to host a Gulf South regional conference in Baton Rouge September 29, 2010 at the Baton Rouge River Center. The conference, CoastalSocial, will feature some of the best known social media users and strategist as speakers including Jason Falls, Julien Smith and Lafayette native Paul Chaney. Community Coffee and other regional business will share their success stories with the estimated 300 conference attendees.
The club plans to host monthly TweetUps at local venues and events. Any member of the Baton Rouge Social Media community is invited to join the Facebook group and attend the TweetUps.
For professional social media users, membership applications are available on the club website www.BRSocMe.com. Professional members will be invited to bi-monthly meetings that will feature educational and professional development programs.
