“Passport to the World” International
Tasting Fair & Cooking Competition

The Baton Rouge Center for World Affairs, Inc. presents the tenth annual “Passport to the World” International Tasting Fair & Cooking Competition on Monday, June 2, 6:30 PM at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge.
In 1999, the Baton Rouge Center for World Affairs started an annual tradition that now showcases the cuisines of the more than 50 cultures that make up the Baton Rouge area population. The dinner began as a potluck get-together, which grew out of the Center's wish to honor its volunteers who had participated in the annual International Heritage Celebration held each October in downtown Baton Rouge. At the appreciation dinner, the volunteers arrived with one show-stopping dish after another; these dishes were a superb expression of the region from which they came.
“We decided that this was too wonderful to keep to ourselves so we turned the dinner into the “Passport to the World” International Tasting Fair & Cooking Competition. Each year we have more contestants than before and their creations are amazing. Once again we are delighted to welcome Whole Foods Market as our sponsor,” says Monika Olivier, president and founder of the Center.
At the event, the spotlight is on the judging process as well as on the dishes. The judging panel of area chefs and media celebrities select the winning dishes. Contestants compete for gold, silver and bronze medals and gifts donated by area businesses. Community members are inspired to demonstrate their skills for creating unique and delicious ethnic dishes, often using family heritage recipes. Guests attending the event are invited to sample the competitors’ dishes, plus they are treated to a variety of international dishes provided by Whole Foods Market in Baton Rouge.
Whether it is a kilt or a sari, guests are encouraged to come in the native attire of their heritage.
All accepted competitors attend as our guests. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at www.brcwa.com  or by calling (225) 924-3456. Seating is limited.
