On November 6th, the Junior League of
Baton Rouge organized a social event for the Community Project "TLC for
Caregivers". An ice cream social was held at the Burden Center
caregivers and their family members and provided an opportunity to
socialize and eat some tasty treats. The event hosted 40 participants
and they enjoyed ice cream and banana splits. The participants danced to
50's music and "trivia" games were a huge hit!
It's difficult to fully measure the impact these events have on the
caregivers. To simply "count the bodies" at the events as a determinate
of success or failure would be unfair. To catch a glimpse of the smiles
on their faces or sometimes even a look of relief to have a reprieve
from their day to day responsibilities as a caregiver is a triumph for
the ladies that dedicate their time & efforts to TLC for Caregivers
project. I'm sure you'll agree by taking a look at the attached photos.
The TLC for Caregivers committee is also successful in fulfilling the
Junior League's mission of "trained volunteers". This community project
provides assistance at Charlie's Place (Alzheimer's Services of the
Capital Area's respite center) and attend or volunteers at events
organized by Alzheimer's Services such as Lunch 'n Learn, Cause to
Remember, and Maximize Your Memory Day; these are programs designed to
inform & increase awareness of services provided by Alzheimer's Services
and focus on topics relating to Alzheimer's disease or dementia. In
doing so, we better educate ourselves and are able to make League
members and others in our community more aware of Alzheimer's disease,
related disorders, and the support services available to the Baton Rouge
community. |
